1. Introduction to Titanium nitrite

Titanium nitrite (TiN) has a typical NaCl structure, which belongs to the face-centered cubic lattice. TiN powder is generally yellowish-brown, ultra-fine TiN powder is black, and TiN crystal is golden yellow.

TiN melting point is 2950℃, density is 5.43-5.44g/cm3, Mohs hardness is 8-9, good thermal impact resistance. TiN has a higher melting point and a lower density than most transition metal nitrides.

2. Manufacturing process of titanium nitride ceramics

(1) Preparation of titanium nitride (TiN) powder

The preparation methods of titanium nitride powder includes titanium hydride, titanium powder direct nitriding, titanium dioxide reduction and chemical vapor deposition (CVD).

(2) Golden titanium nitride coating

Characteristics

Hydrogenated titanium,

Direct nitriding of titanium powder

2TiH2 N2==2TiN 2H2

2Ti N2==2TiN

1000~1400℃

Ultra-fine powder with high nitrogen content can be obtained. The process is simple, but the time is long and the raw material is expensive

Titanium dioxide reduction

2TiO2 4C N2==2TiN 4CO

1250~1400℃

The process is simple, the raw material is cheap, the reaction time is short and the production efficiency is relatively high,

High, low cost

Chemical vapor deposition (CVD)

2TiCl4 N2 4H2==2TiN 8HCl

1100~1500℃

The TiN powder is fine, high purity and ultra-fine active powder, but it has low production efficiency and high cost

(2) Golden titanium nitride coating

At this moment, titanium nitride coating is deposited on the surface of ceramics by CVD method, which is not the only used in domestic ceramics and artistic ceramics has abrasion resistance, but also has a golden luster decorative effect, which can replace and save expensive gold.

The chemical vapor deposition method (CVD method) uses nitrogen as the source of nitrogen. The reaction formula is as follows:

2TiCl4 N2 4H2==2TiN 8HCl(800~850℃)

The color and adhesion strength of TiN deposition are closely related to the flow rate and temperature of TiCl4 and N2.

The temperature deposition should be controlled at 800 ~ 850 ℃, the flow rate of each gas should be as small as possible, and the treatment surface base needs to suitable, Gold TiN coatings can be obtained on ceramic surfaces.

3. Properties and applications of titanium nitride ceramics

The titanium nitrite ceramics have golden yellow luster, high hardness (micro-hardness is 21GPa), high melting point (2950℃), good chemical stability, high conductivity and superconductivity.

Titanium nitride ceramics with high hardness and good chemical stability can be used as melting resistant and abrasion resistant materials. Titanium nitride ceramics with golden luster can be used for surface decoration to improve abrasion resistance, especially for daily art ceramics surface decoration; Titanium nitride ceramics with high conductivity and superconductivity can be used as electrodes and electrical contacts for molten salt electrolysis and other materials.
